12-12-2024: According to the observations at (05:30) hrs M.S.T today, the well marked low pressure area over Southwest Bay of Bengal(off Sri Lanka Coast ) is crossing near North Sri Lanka coast. It is likely to move West-Northwestwards and may reach over Tamil Nadu Coast, India, during next 6 hrs. Weather is a few cloud  over the North Bay and East central  bay and partly cloudy to cloudy  over the  Andaman Sea and elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.

General Weather Forecast for 2015 Rainy Season

Onset and withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon

Southwest monsoon is likely to set into the whole country on first (10) days of June, 2015. Southwest monsoon is likely to retreat from the whole country third (10) days of September, 2015.

Early Monsoon Period Forecast

The early monsoon period is establishment of Southwest Monsoon over Myanmar to the end of June. Two Low Pressure Areas may form over the Bay of Bengal and one may further intensify into the Depression. During the early monsoon period, monsoon will be moderate. Rain will be expected below normal rain in Lower Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway Regions, Shan, Chin, Kayah and Kayin States and about normal rain in the remaining Regions and States.

Mid Monsoon Period Forecast

Mid Monsoon period is a period of starting from 1st July to the end of August. Three Low Pressure Areas may form over the North Bay of Bengal and two may further intensify into the Depression. During the mid monsoon period, monsoon will be moderate to strong. Rain will be expected above normal rain in Kachin State and below normal in Lower Sagaing Region and about normal rain in the remaining Regions and States.

Late Monsoon Period Forecast

Late Monsoon period is a period starting from 1st September to the date of Monsoon withdrawal from the whole country. Two Low Pressure Areas may form over the Bay of Bengal and may further intensify into the Depression. During the late monsoon period, monsoon will be weak to moderate. Rain will be expected above normal rain in Ayeyarwady and Taninthayi Region and about normal rain in the remaining Regions and States.

Early Monsoon Period

            The early monsoon period is establishment of Southwest Monsoon over Myanmar to the end of June.

Onset of Southwest Monsoon

            Southwest monsoon is likely to set in:

  1. Southern Myanmar  Areas during (15-20) of May
  2. Deltaic Areas during (21-26) of May
  3. Central Myanmar Areas during (27-31) of May
  4. Northern Myanmar Areas during  June(1-7)

Bay of Bengal Condition

Two Low Pressure Areas may form over the Bay of Bengal and one may further intensify into the Depression. During the early monsoon period, monsoon will be moderate.

Rain Condition

Rain will be expected below normal rain in Lower Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway Regions, Shan, Chin, Kayah and Kayin States and about normal rain in the remaining Regions and States.
