25th National Monsoon Forum(Video Conferencing)
The opening ceremony of 25th Monsoon Forum 2020, jointly sponsored and organized by Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) & Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) was held this morning by video conferencing. In the opening ceremony, Dr. Kyaw Moe Oo, Director General of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology delivered the Welcome remarks and Mr. A.R. Subbiah, Director of RIMES has given the Remarks.
Representative from Departments under the Ministry of Transport and Communication, Enterprises and other invited ministries, representatives of disaster management agencies, experts of Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES); a total of about (45) participants were attended video conferencing.
The Workshop is focused on the reviewing the 2020 Southwest Monsoon season presenting and discussing the seasonal outlook for the 2020-2021 Northeast Monsoon Season, discussing likely sectorial conditions for the 2020-2021 Northeast Monsoon Season based on historical data, currently observed conditions, and forecast, and accordingly plan for preparedness, presenting draft seasonal preparedness plans, based on potential impact scenarios, for possible institutional and end-users uptake, evolving strategies for addressing and implementing stakeholder recommendations for optimizing seasonal and sub-seasonal preparedness. And it is for use on enhancing forecast generation and application and discussing other relevant issues, concerns for multi-hazard preparedness.
The monsoon forum has been held twice annually on regular basic starting from 2007 and the current forum is the 25th of the Forum.
